iChat video not connecting ...

I've consistently been having problems using iChat. Most recently I purchased the Airport Extreme in hopes of alleviating any connection problems and it still won't show my friends video. I'm not sure now if the problem is on my end or my friends. Here is the error log I keep getting:

2009-10-27 09:17:51 -0500: No data has been received for the last 10 seconds.

Video channel info: local machine using 10.0.1.4:16384, expecting remote machine to send to 173.19.142.79:3727

Chat ended with error -20

Do I need to open ports? How can I tell if my macbook is behind a firewall?
